2008 TOP SHOE COLLECTORS
|

Presenting the winning "shoe trophy" for collecting the most tennis shoes for 2008 was Paul Wight of Remains, Inc., St. Louis. West Elementary of Alton collected 302 pairs of shoes to be either reused or recycled. Pictured with the student representatives is Karen Gross, recycling coordinator.

Receiving second place was the Dewey Street Campus, from Troy. The students collected 266 pairs of shoes. The co-recycling coordinators are Monique Liguori-Weinberg and Melinda Pauk.
Paul Wight, of Remains, displays some of the rubber grind that the shoes become before they are made into basketball courts.
The Recycling Education Coordinator has a shoe display with bags of grind and lessons plans. Any Madison County teacher may call and request these items.

The trophy for third place went to Lewis & Clark Elementary School from Godfrey. They successfully collected 206 pairs of shoes. Pictured with Paul Wight are Priscilla Raines and Becky Scancamper, recycling coordinators.
